How Travelzoo Turned a First-Time Email Surge into a Hands-Off Operation

Travelzoo spent years as a free service. Members got travel and entertainment deals, and the business ran on advertising. In 2024, the company started moving those members onto paid annual memberships and by early 2026, most of the base had converted. That shift changed the business, and it changed the math for the customer service team.

Paid memberships renew, and a wave of them came due at once. The first big renewal cycle hit in April 2026 and brought a spike in email nobody on the team had dealt with before. Members wrote in with renewal questions and account changes, all in a short window. The requests were simple, but there were a lot of them. They were time-sensitive, and they buried a team that had never seen this kind of volume.

Adding headcount to cover a once-a-year spike wasn't a real answer, and the manual cost of clearing the queue wasn't sustainable. Travelzoo knew what the problem was. They needed a smarter way to handle it.

Sidd Solo Enters the Email Queue

Working with Laivly, the Travelzoo team launched Sidd Solo to handle three high-volume, rule-based email types autonomously, end-to-end. In other words, they automated the work that was consuming the most time.

Rather than routing every email to an agent queue, Sidd Solo receives incoming requests, determines intent, and resolves eligible cases on its own.

The launch went live in nine weeks, with Laivly’s team handling scoping, configuration, intent modeling, outcome monitoring, and QA before the first autonomous resolution ever reached a customer.

Transparency Is Key with Autonomous AI

One common concern with autonomous AI is transparency. How would the Travelzoo team know what Sidd was actually doing? Laivly made full observability inherent to Sidd, building it into the product from the start. Every step Sidd Solo takes is logged and visible, and the team can replay, review, or retry any action at any point. For a company handling sensitive membership and billing requests, that level of control is a requirement, full stop.

Had Travelzoo not been ready to go fully autonomous, Sidd Solo doesn’t have to take the wheel entirely from day one. It can complete every step of a resolution workflow right up to the final action, then hand back to a human agent to close it out. Teams can build confidence in the technology while still delivering real efficiency gains, but on their own timeline.

Sidd Solo Exceeds Projected Results

Going in, the Travelzoo team projected that Sidd Solo might handle around 25% of their membership email volume autonomously, an optimistic target by their own estimate. The actual results cleared that bar by a wide margin.

During the April renewal surge alone, Sidd Solo handled 32.4% of membership email volume without any human involvement. And it wasn’t just volume. The quality held up, too.

How Customer Service Agents Reacted to Automating Emails

The results landed differently than a typical technology rollout. Agents weren’t uneasy about what automation meant for their roles. Instead, they were relieved. The team had been clear from the start that this wasn’t a headcount reduction project. It was a capacity-building one. Sidd Solo absorbed the repetitive volume during peak busy periods to give agents room to breathe and focus on the conversations that actually needed them.

The response was strong enough that Travelzoo’s leadership brought the story to their entire U.S. organization. What started as a solution to manage a seasonal problem had become a proof point worth sharing across the business.

The Bigger Picture for Autonomous AI

Every contact center has a version of this problem: a category of work that’s predictable, repetitive, and relentless—not difficult, but never-ending.

Sidd Solo is built for exactly that work. It alleviates pressure on human teams while making sure customers get efficient, consistent resolutions. Extra capacity without the extra headcount.
